I'm using a firewire external case (no-name) with an IDE hard drive and IDE DVD burner. I'm pretty sure I did this before: hooked up 2 IDE devices to the external case (Master/Slave or Cable Select jumper settings - can't remember) and I'm pretty sure they were both recognized. Or maybe I was insane at the time. I've been trying it with 2 different external cases, IDE cables, etc and I simply can't get the second drive to be recognized. I thought all IDE controllers recognized 2 devices (Master/Slave). These are modern enclosures so maybe the IDE controllers have changed and they have eliminated a feature that was almost never used?
PLEASE only respond if you're quite sure of the correct answer. I realize this is a strange question. But if I can get it to work I can save on external enclosures. I'm powering the drives off an ATX power supply so there is no worry about power requirements. And of course nothing is mounted internally so there are no space considerations.
