But that will work only if your Mac supports booting to OS 9 - and no G5 supports booting to OS 9.
Your only choice is using the Classic environment, and then only if you have OS X 10.4.11, or older.
There's also the other alternatives, such as Sheep Shaver.
I understand that you want to boot to OS 9, but what is your ultimate goal with that - what software do you need to use that won't run in some other setup?
If you have already upgraded that G5 to Leopard, then you would need to install an older OS X version on that second hard drive, so you can use Classic.
