have an old g4 2001 quicksilver w/ a Seagate Pata/100- 500gb hd installed in it and would like to install it in my new Macpro work station. macpro is 2.8ghz quad core intel exeon-320gb Serial ata 3gb/d 7200 rpm hard drive.
Anyone think I can install it and use it in one of the 4 ports on new comp?
Thanks

No, because the hard drives in the Mac Pro use a SATA connection while your older drive uses a PATA connection. There are adaptors available, but from what I've seen, using an adaptor would prevent you from installing the hard drive in those nifty slide-out bays that the Mac Pro has.

Why not a cheap-o external USB case?

Your MacPro has IDE (PATA) available into the optical drive area. You COULD install that IDE drive in the second optical drive bay, and hook up with the second IDE connector there. You'd have to experiment with the master/slave jumpers, but slave should do the trick....

Thanks guys for the info! I did buy a teribyte external hd [ maxtor ] Think I'll just stick with it. I am going to try a migration of data from 2nd hd to macpro.
Thanks again
