30''CinemaDisplay why underground...?

There was a simmilar topic..

The specs of the 30" Cinema Display received an increase recently on Apple's site. This doesn't reflect an actual upgrade, but Apple's response to Dell's posting of higher specs for their 30" monitor.

They can do this because both monitors use the exact same panel made by LG. The difference is that the higher specs represent use in ideal lighting situations.

Dell just used the higher specs offered by LG, while Apple posted lower, and slightly more realistic (some would say) specs.

I still dont understand why not make a public. Why not inform Apple customers that their monitor is as good as Dell's, why leave it in the dark?

Why not? It's not a major upgrade, and Apple has bigger and better things to push on their website. Also, hosting some sort of event to announce that the screens had been slighly upgraded costs Apple money -- probably more than they'd make by announcing it.

In fact, Apple has made it public: http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html

How is putting the specs on their website not "public?"

Also,
Listed with many Apple products - :

"Product specifications are subject to change without notice."

Another example of a recent 'silent' upgrade: the Mac mini prior to release of the Intel processor, had processor speed updates that were never officially announced.

Because it's not an update at _all_. It's the same "old" 30" monitor. What should they have done? Say: "Hey, the 30" monitor, even if you've bought it with the old specs, is actually better now!" ?? ... It just wouldn't be true. The only thing they _could've_ said is that Dell was using other figures and that now, because of that, Apple was forced to also use the "more optimistic" figures. That wouldn't make sooooooooo good news now, would it.
