3259 Error Message

On a Mac OS X 10.4.11. laptop. ISP provider is Comcast. Have successfully been sending and receiving e-mails at home no problem using Entourage for two years.

Have now taken laptop to visit away from home and clicked into the host's house wifi system - AT&T u-vers.

Entourage will now receive but not send e-mails. Receive 3259 error message about timing out. However, can send fine by going to Comcast's site, therefore Comcast insists this is not their problem but an Entourage problem, probably with settings.

Settings have not been touched, so kind of frustrating.

Ideas?

Probably because AT&T will not let their internet users send email to an email server other than their own -- in short, it's probably because you're still trying to use your Comcast SMTP server instead of AT&T's.

What you're doing kind of appears to AT&T's SMTP server as "relaying," which is a big no-no because it's associated with spam.

Since AT&T's SMTP servers are not set up as open relays (which 99% of email servers are not), you have to use AT&T's SMTP server instead of Comcast's while you're using AT&T's network.

Hi, i tried absolutely everything then came up with this which worked for me:

1) Under Tools/Accounts, click on advanced sending options under SMTP server
2) Select "override default SMPT port" and change port to 2525
3) Select "SMPT requires authentication"
4) Select "Use same settings as receiving mail server"
5) Do not select "SMPT requires secure connection (SSL)"

Everything should then work perfectly
