4 sec. delay for all clicks?!

G5, 1.8Ghz dual, 10.4.11, 1G. Fleeing a dying internal HD I moved files, including Library, to a smaller internal HD. I now get a 4-5 second delay for all clicks and typing. On startup I'm warned "System extension '/System/Library/extensions/SymDC.kext' is not working, please reinstall." I found a SymDC installer in Library but installation fails.

I replaced the larger HD and Carbon Copied the contents of the smaller disc to it, thinking the delays might be caused by the almost-full smaller disc, but the problem persists.

I'm easily annoyed by delays of all kinds and I could imagine that my Mac has enough personality to be trying to encourage me to develop my patience, but I'd rather just fix this glitch.
 
That SymDC file that is reported - is part of your Symantec software. You can reinstall whatever you have, such as Norton AntiVirus.
A better choice would be to uninstall all your Symantec software, which often causes performance problems, even in a properly setup system.

I understand that you need to do what you can with a dying HD having replaced several and having to scavenge data from many bad drives, but this may be the source of the delays. Was installing a clean system then migrating the user data including the libraries not an option at the time the drive was dying?
 
Thanks for the suggestions. It is strange to finish typing that first sentence before it appears. I don't actually have the 10.4 installation disc, my G5 came from the MegaMacs with it already installed. Perhaps I can borrow a disc. I'd go up to 10.5 but so many of my photog peers have had such trouble losing important parts of their imaging process when they upgraded.

I'll try uninstalling the Symantec software.
 
You really do need a set of system disks for your machine whatever happens -as a fellow forumer here said, buying a machine with no install disks is like buying a car without keys.
 
I found a 10.4.6 disc and did an archive and install. The delay problem is gone. Now I'm just installing updates to make nice between Photoshop and my Epson Printer. How does the Mac know that, the week before an art show, you'll give it whatever hard or software its little silicon heart desires? Thank you all for your help.
 
If you have lost your installation DVD's you can call Apple Care and command a pair of replacement discs (just in case you know)
