hi all
just booted up this morning and noticed (heard) a lot of disk drive activity. wondering what was going on i looked at Activity monitor and mdsimport and mds? is taking up a lot of CPU time, its been going on for 10 mins now..

anyone know what is going on. i spent a lot of time yesterday formatting and partitioning a lacie HD and backing up OS9 and SAfari using CCC..

I'm assuming that you've got 10.4 installed, and that you probably either a) installed it recently, or b) added more drives or did a lot of data copying recently.

Those processes indicate that Spotlight is indexing one or more of your drives for searching. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours -- my recommendation is to let the computer sit for a while without going to sleep and let it finish indexing. After that, you will rarely see disk activity from indexing again.
