Adobe Reader & Firefox won't stay default!

We run 17 workstations via Apple v10.7.4 (Lion) OD home server. Our problem has been to allow network users to set Adobe Reader v10.1.4 and Firefox 15.0.1 as default apps, but once machine has been re-booted, default reverts back to Preview & Safari. If machines are not re-booted, then the new setting will stay in effect until machine is re-booted. Local machine preferences work as usual, only network users are effected. Logging out of one user to another does not change new preferences - only re-boot. Problem seems to be with local workstations, since only re-boot causes setting to revert back. Problem is with all machines.
Almost seems like a permission issue, but where?
System : Servers 10.7.4, workstations OSX 10.7.4, Firefox (current) 15.0.1, Adobe Reader v10.1.4

What happens if you log into a workstation (to test) and set the changing of the default (when signed in as an Administrator)? Does the default change stick if you do that?

No, it will not stay as default, when set by admin. Re-booting causes machine to reset back to Safari & Preview. As mentioned before, this is an issue with network accounts, not local accounts. Everything works like it should locally.

Curious that mis does this in OD.Even setting the change locally and it still doesn't stick. Seems like machines aren't taking to the OD fully and your changes aren't sticking or not talking fully to the OD server. Sorry to say I am at a lost.
