Advice needed on Camcorder

Friends,

I am starting off on my search for getting a camcorder. As I think most of my editing is going to be in iMovie, I want the best camera which is easily compatible with my Powerbook. I am now between Canon's ZR series and Sony's TRV. Would greatly appreciate recommendations from experienced users.

Thanks.

I'm a big fan of Sony products. I have one of the first Sony DV cams they made. I'm still happy with the quality all these years later. I can only imagine they have gotten better. Works great with imovie too. Never had a Cannon anything but I have used a Cannon digital camera and was very impressed with the quality.

Well, you chose two brands for your new camcorder that may make your decision quite difficult! Both Sony and Canon make excellent camcorders. The Canon ZR60, 65, and 70 cameras are great entry- to mid-level camcorders. I could say as much about the Sonys as well...

Either one you choose will make you a happy camper. Here's a list of camcorders specifically supported by OS X:

If you're a .Mac member, you can get 10% off the purchase of a camcorder.

Apple has added yet another exclusive offer for .Mac members—10 percent off digital camcorders at Apple retail stores. "You'll need to present a printout of the (main) .Mac page to get the 10 percent discount on any digital camcorder in stock, including the latest models from Canon, Sony and JVC," notes Apple. The offer is good through March 31, 2004.
