AIM and whatnot

I have the original AIM program. I wish to have AIM+, but can't do that with Macs. Is there another IM program out there?

Google is your friend ;)

On the topic, I don't think there is anything like AIM+ for the mac. There are a few other AIM clones and such that will do some of what AIM+ does, but nothing that does it all in one package. A little bit OT, but I thought AIM+ had spyware? Maybe that was just a rumor that I had read.

I have a couple replies for the AIM+ features....

"Automatic (but optional) logging of all your IMs (even chat rooms!), creating a history which you can browse using the AIM+ History Viewer (part of AIM+)."

Logging is built into the Mac version of AIM.

"Ad-Removal - say goodbye to all those pesky ads that clutter up your Buddy List!"

There's a hack for the Mac version of AIM at http://www.bluebomber.com/aimx/
This procedure removes the ads.

"Cloning - you can run multiple instances of AIM to sign on with as many different screennames as you want!"

True, can't run multiple screen names in the same AIM program, but if you use the official Mac AIM client, iChat, and Adium, that's three screen names you can run at the same time, right there.

"Adjust the transparency of your Buddy List or IM/Chat windows!"

If you love transparent windows, I suggest you look at WindowShade for OS X. it has all sorts of window-manipulation features. http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/wsx/

Sorry we don't have something EXACTLY like that for Mac, but I think these things will help.

(or available from the Apple Store for $30 for use under OS X 10.2)

iChat comes with 10.2 - I have it.

You might want to check out Fire. Although I do not think is has all the + stuff.

Adium 2. Enough Said. In its alpha stage now, and still is far superior to many AIM clients. When it's finished; watch out. :)

Too many features to list, go to http://adium.sourceforge.net\

Referring to a few posts back, adium has built in transparency options, automatic logging, and can have as many accounts signed on simultaneously as you please...god theres so much more too...

Ah, yes it does, my mistake. I was referring to iChat AV, which, once installed, will require the download of a special installer package that will roll you back to the regular iChat.

If I remember right, Proteus allows multiple screen names to be signed on at once, though not very elegantly.
