I can stay connected to wireless but unless I have skype or another app that is constantly sending and receiving my internet connection stops (wireless doesn't) and I had a suspicion that my wireless was loose or something with the hardware, but now I'm confused since in my house at least it stays connected to the wireless, at work though it won't even find any wireless even though it is sitting next to the access point.

I am not able to take it in (living in Ukraine) to see if the hardware is the problem, how else could I find out if it is hardware or just software?

Open System Preferences->Network pane. In that pane look to the top of the pane and use the drop-down "Location". Create a new "Location" calling it whatever you want. Make one for Home and one for Roaming and one for Work.

All these new "Locations" will act just like it was set to "Automatic", so don't worry. If you want you can use the free Airport Location to keep better settings seperate in the settings, easier.

This might help because IMHO I stated, in a thread, a while back OSX's "Automatic" Location is broke. I still hold this opinion and for the last few years I have had no wireless problems.

Goog luck and I hope this helps.

If you're on a DSL connection (or some other type of connection that is authentication-based), ensure that you've got the AirPort Extreme set up to always maintain a connection.

What kind of internet connection do you have?
