Airport scanning - performance interrupt

I recently installed a VPN.

The performance through the VPN is badly affected by the Airport scanning regularly; often the VPN hangs.

I have deleted the unnecessary wireless networks listed in the Advanced button under Network Preferences. However, the problem persists.

Can you please advise how to either stop the scanning or stop it interfering with Internet connection?

Many thanks.

It only "scans" when you click on the icon. Plus have you download a wireless scanner like iStumbler to see if anything else is interfering with your wireless.

One more thing. IMHO in Leopard wireless the wireless seems to be better if you go to System Preferences->Network and at the top of the window pane select a new custom location (naming it anything you want). Then hit the "Advanced" button and when the drop down come down select "TCP/IP" and request a new IP. I think when the location is set to Automatic wireless can be problematic at best.

Good Luck.

Also, I thought this thread had already been created a couple days or a week ago...

Sorry I may have opened this twice... in error.

BTW, I created the new location and hit Advanced but there is no drop down for TCP/IP

I downloaded iStumbler as suggested.

I have signal strength of 57% on average and noise of up to 20%. There are 2 other networks reported with 36% and 40% strength and 14% & 25% noise. All devices have different channel values. I can't see how to interpret these values.
