All FONTS loading at start-up in OSX and other apps

Primarily working in graphics applications (Illustrator, Photoshop), all my 2000+ fonts load when opening the programs. In Adobe Illustrator 10, for example, I get the typical start-up screen and when it "Reads fonts..." the application halts while scanning my system for ALL my fonts. This usually takes 7-8 minutes just to open the application and it also takes the OS about that long to boot, too.

I am on a 400Mhz G4 w/768MB RAM, MAC OS 10.2.6. I have not touched any of Mac OS X's Fonts folders as I use Extensis Suitcase 10.2 to manage my fonts, which I keep in a completely different folder on my hard drive. In fact, I've even taken Suitcase off of my system to see if that was it, but no. So, I don't think Suitcase is the problem.

I've been living with this problem for about a month and I can't take it anymore. I've called Apple and all they said was to do an "archive and install" of the OS, but I still ended up with the same problem.

Has anyone ever heard of this problem of the system wanting to search their hard drive for all fonts? Please help me! I'd appreciate any suggestions you think may help. Thanks!

Sorry people, I posted this in the wrong place and don't know how to remove it. Tell me how and I will...

I'm sure a moderator will move it in due time (once they've woke up ') )

As for your problem... Have you checked all of your system fonts folders? Not only will you have a fonts folder within your /Library/Fonts folder (the Library folder in your system hard drive), but you'll have one in /System/Library/Fonts (the System folder in your System hard drive)... and also one in your /Users/YourUserNameHere/Library/Fonts (your Home directory's Library folder).

Check all these out to see if any of the fonts are residing in them.

also, if you are using Classic, there will be fonts in the System Folder/Fonts. You may even have more if you have a separate System Folder for a booting into OS 9
