Apple Apps aren't cutting the mustard...

Barebones, eh?
Try Image Capture, it's in your main Applications folder.

You might want to launch Image Capture first before connecting the camera, and change it's preferences to launch Image Capture when a camera is connected.

Works with scanners too. :)

Going back to the drawer thingy: you don't have to move the application window to the extreme left or right to get the drawer to switch sides. Yes, you do have to have enough room for it to open, but try this: open the drawer in mail, and grab any old message you've got laying around. If the drawer is on the right side, drag a message to the left side of the mail application -- voila! Drawer now opens on the left side. Remember: you DO have to have enough room for the drawer to open on whichever side you'd like it to be on.

Before iPhoto I had iView Media Pro. I never used keywords (but I think they are supported). The only thing that really bothered me about it was 32K files per catalogue limit (you can create additional catalogues).

I should also mention that iPhoto *chokes* on that meny photos, but this apps is just as fast as iPhoto.

you should really look into it. I had one full catalog (32,000 files) and could browse incredibly fast - with absolutely no lag.

This app also supports EXIF, IPTC tags for information.

In addition to keeping your images (it supports several native camera RAW formats - like canon, Kodak, etc.) it can hold your fonts, quark, illustrator, FreeHand, eps, pdf, InDesign, PageMaker, etc files (120 file formats in all).

cool, let me know what you decide.

Since I went back to school I have not needed hevyweight cataloguing software, but *hopefully* I'll be needing something in the coming months.
