Not sure how long this has been up at Apple:

they seem to be pushing the term "itunes label"

so, basically apple could actually sign the next elvis, madonna or usher on as itunes labels before the big boys snag them. Haven't seen the itunes label agreements, but looks pretty interesting.

Don't know much about the music biz but what does MZlabel mean?

Looks like they are pushing marketing/volume discounts of ipods and itunes pretty hard and some other promotion. I think we are going to hear some really good things come next week in paris...can't wait.

Apple site said:
"If you are a signed iTunes label, you can reach millions of music lovers through your partnership with iTunes. Take a look below to learn about some of the music marketing programs and tools we have designed to help you maximize your sales on iTunes."

I think it means "if you are a label that has signed up to sell music on the iTunes music store".

It seems to have nothing, nothing at all, to do with Apple signing up bands.

The rest of that page all seems to be about iTunes' Affiliate type programs and deals.

(Oh, and I think it should really be "iTunes' Label")

Yes. mi5moav again jumped to conclusions too fast. I guess Apple would actually _love_ to get into this business, but there are several rocks in the road to that... One would be that _other_ company called Apple. (The Beatles' one.)

Not to mention that such a competitive move would send the big music companies away from iTMS and Apple in general

they could just call the label iTunes. that would make more sense than apple...

nassau: fryke's referring to the lawsuit that Apple Records has brought/is bringing against Apple for "entering the music business." You see, both companies had a dispute some time ago, and one of the terms of the resolution was that Apple computer can use the "Apple" name as long as they never enter the music business -- so each "Apple" would stay on their respective sides of the fence: Apple Records as a music company, Apple Computer as a computer company.

Apple Records now thinks that Apple Computer's selling of music tracks via an on-line music store violates their agreement. Even if Apple Computer called the label (which isn't really a label at all -- Apple Computer is not "signing" bands to music contracts) "iTunes," it's still a trademark owned by Apple Computer and therefore subject to the Apple Records/Computer settlement.

This goes back year to when Apple Corp (formerly Apple Records) sued Apple computer for building macintosh with line-level sound inputs back in the late 1980's. That resulted in the 1991 agreement which Apple Records is claiming Apple Computer just broke:
