applications just crashing...

since the lasy upgrade some of my apps just crash

ICQ, MSN messenger, IE, omniweb, mozilla just startup and the crash. Entourage crashed when images are embedded in the email.
What gives? anyone else have this problem ?

lasy upgrade? what _exactly_ are you talking about? update to 10.3.6? I've had a similar thing happen with one of the prerelease builds of 10.3.6... i could only solve it via a re-install of 10.3.4, which I then directly updated to 10.3.5 and later to 10.3.6 final... i think what you're experiencing is really some basic framework for the displaying of images to be corrupt... hmm... but i'm just guessing here...

got the combo updater, nothing fixed.
I decided to use the mail application (to check some mail that entourage was crashing on), and the mail app's icon is now a generic app icon, and it does not launch. This is now added to the list of apps that done work...oy!

I did a permission repair and nothing wrong there.

Hmmm... you didn't happen to move any of those applications outside of the default install location (/Applications) did you?

If so, tsk tsk! Don't do that!

Boot from the OS CD and run Disk Utility (go to the menu when the installer screen appears).

Have you tried to create a new user to see if the apps open and work for the new user?

I have tried using apps in root and in another user that were already present - no go. I have not created a new user since 10.3.6

_Still_ trying to troubleshoot this one after more than 24h? Backup and reinstall is what I say. Takes you a bit more than an hour, probably, but is definitely worth it, since you're going to waste a _lot_ of hours if nobody comes up with a known solution to this problem... I know I'm a bit fast with that trigger on the reinstall-gun, but it really saves a lot of time.

Strange person, you... You restrict yourself _this_ much? No images in Entourage mail, only Safari now for you and you effectively _stop_ chatting?

Have you installed any fonts lately? I had some problems with postscript fonts being in the user library folder or the main library folder, Many apps would just crash without starting up. I had to put all postscript fonts in the Classic System Fonts folder.

May not be your problem, but it's worth a shot...

the last time I installed fonts was a while ago in 10.3.5 when I did a greek system update (through an apple dealer). It was a while ago...I should not have this much trouble.

The problem is backing up :p - I dont have time to backup my 80 gig HD and to do a restore :) In january I will have oodles of time (besides now I cant chat due to classes -- I am up to my ears in homework :p)

Any idea when tiger is coming out ? ;)
