Why am I having trouble receiving attachments from my husband's computer. He sends me an email with an attachment; when I open the email, the attachment is not there. It happens all the timer. Both of us are using OS X version 10.4.11. Thank you

Hi Lorra,
Welome to Macosx.com.
Are you using mail.app that was included in Mac OS X?
Can you see these email attachments when using webmail?
If some file is not there when sent e.g. as a .zip file, if the file extension is renamed to something else, e.g. .txt (Safest) or .pdf, is there any difference?
Is he sending these attachments from home account or work account? Can others receive these attachments without problems?

Thanks for your response. He is using the mail app. that came with the mac. I use web mail and I cannot see the attachments when they are sent to me. They are simply not attached to my webmail account when I pull it up. He is sending these attachments from his home account. He has no trouble with others receiving his attachments. Just me. I donot like the mac app. for mail. That is why I donot use it.

Hm. Can you test will mail app? Maybe you can receive them fine in the application, and not just in webmail.
Or, if he sends these attachments to another account of yours, with a different provider, that you can check with webmail (e.g. yahoo or gmail) I would suspect that those attachments would have a good chance of arriving.
Do you receive the attachments from other senders fine?

Tell him to launch Mail and then before sending anything go to Mail's menu item "Edit", down the Edit drop down and move his mouse over "Attachments" and there put a check mark on "Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments". This should help.

Plus let him know that all ISPs limit attachments to 10MB. If he wants to send anything larger then he would have to use a service like Drop Box.

Thanks for your help! I will do a test and have him send the email attachment to a gmail or yahoo account of mine. I will also look at my mac mail app. and see if his email arrived with the attachment. Thanks again.
Lorra
