hello there...here's my problem. I have 2 M-Audio studio monitor speakers that I have hooked up to my MacMini and of course I want them to be in stereo. I have a stereo 1/8" to 1/4" adapter coming from the headphone port, a stereo to mono 1/4" splitter and 2 1/4" audio cables going to each speaker. Thanks in advance for the help!!

...a stereo to mono 1/4" splitter and 2 1/4" audio cables going to each speaker...

If your problem is that you're not getting stereo output, then your stereo-to-mono adapter is likely the problem.

I believe you're thinking that the stereo-to-mono splitter takes a stereo signal and outputs the left channel to one side of the splitter and the right channel to the other -- it does not.

The stereo-to-mono splitter, if anything like what I've had experience with, is outputting both the left and right channel to EACH of the mono outputs. In other words, like this:

Code:
Stereo output ---> splitter +--> left + right channel ---> left mono output
                            |
                            |
                            |
+--> left + right channel ---> right mono output
Basically, the left and right channels are combined before the split (i.e., converted to mono), then that same signal is sent out on both the mono outputs.

Is this the problem you're experiencing?
