Audio quality of iMac's CD drive/burner

Using a 4.8G iMac, and am returning to music development using Logic, after a long hiatus. I previously used an external stand-a-lone burner for top audio quality on the master. Can I rely on the internal burner now, or should I invest in a new external? If external is better, what models should I be looking at?
 
I would go with the external instead the side slot loading drive on an iMac. Just get one with the fastest interface Like one of these.
