The company I work for sends out numerous pdf files which in the past I have had no trouble opening in Google Chrome on my system 10.6.8. Now when I try to open these pdf files, it says Chrome cannot open aspx files. I have tried opening in all other browsers to no avail.
What is an aspx file? And why all of a sudden do pdf files turn into aspx files?
Is there a way I can open these files? Thanks.

Those .aspx files are .NET web form files.
http://www.fileinfo.com/extension/aspx

Any web browser _should_ be able to open a .aspx file on your Mac.
If that doesn't work - Try simply changing the file extension from .aspx to .pdf
That may allow you to open the file.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried all browsers including Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Explorer, none of which work.

aspx files are actually programs that the web server executes. To the web browser, they should be look like html-files (or in your case pdf). I do not know about aspx, but this might be the same case when some servers have dropped PHP-interpreter and instead of HTML, you get PHP programs. So the problem is in the web server, not your browsers.

How can I change the aspx files to pdf?

You would just rename the file.
The file name ends in the extension .aspx
replace the .aspx with .pdf
