blank cds not recognized in 10.3

I am not sure when this happened because I have not inserted a blank cdr to be read by the finder in sometime, but the cdr is no longer recognized. I load the cd in, the optical drive sounds like it is trying to read it, then it dies down and is not shown in finder. That little box doesn't pop up asking me what i want to do with/name the cd either.

I tried to read a cdr with a different (new) user and that worked so I am assuming that it is a user preference problem. I plan on just going through every one of my user preferences (one by one), backing them up, removing them, and then logging out / logging back in. Hopefully I can find a corrupted preference.

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this. If so, did you fix it? What was the problem?

thanks

Open System Preferences, then the "CDs & DVDs" tab. Make sure "When you insert a blank CD:" is actually set to do something (other than "Ignore").

hmm....I will have to check that out when I get home. i can't remeber if checked that or not. Won't I feel like an idiot if that is the case :)

thanks
