Boot From External HD ... ???

I've tried booting from my external HD by holding down Apple, Option, Shift and Delete, but my iBook still boots from the internal HD. So I have to boot from the iBook first, then choose my external HD from the System Preferences, so I can boot from the external HD.

I used to be able to boot directly from the external HD, but can't remember the key combination .... Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hold down 'option' at boot -- this will display a selection menu of all bootable volumes connected to the computer.
