Can a G3 Imac be upgraded from 10.3.5 to 10.3.9?

I have a G3 iMac, the model that came with both System 9 and OSX
(600 mhz, 512 MB Sdram)

I am finally working in OSX.3.9 and when I downloaded the next version update, my computer says that it can't be installed!
Is it possible to upgrade any further?

I am trying to update Safari and some other programs which are telling me that I need to be in at least 10.3.9...
Any help is greatly appreciated!

So... the original OS X system was 10.0.x, right? Did you purchase and install OS X 10.3?

There is no system update past 10.3.9 -- that's the highest it goes. You may see security updates and updates to specfic applications or services, but there is no "Mac OS X Updater" past 10.3.9 for your system. Your next step, if you choose to take it, is to purchase and install Mac OS X 10.4. You cannot upgrade from 10.3 to 10.4 for free with a downloadable update, though.

If you're already working in 10.3.9, you do not need to install the 10.3.9 update. What is the exact name of the updater you're downloading -- more specifically, can you give us a link to the page where you're downloading it?

Again, what are the exact updates you're trying to install? Are you trying to install them via Software Update, or are you downloading them from a web page?

Thanks for your reply about upgrading my imac! (Yes, the iMac came with 10.0, a friend updated it to 10.3.5.)
I am actually in system B]10.3.5[/B] and am trying to get 10.3.9 to install...so it looks like only one last step for this computer!

Today I did a firmware update that was recommended in the thread below- rebooted in 9.2 successfully. Then I went back to 10.3.5 and tried to install the update for 10.3.9 which I downloaded from the Apple download site.
I get a bulletin that says that the 'update cannot be installed on this volume'

The Safari update was downloaded from Software update on 10.3.5
Any new ideas on what to do next?
Best, GinaV

have you run system update from the system prefs yet? that will make sure that all updates are installed in the proper order.

I think she already mentioned that when she updated Safari. However, you can manually download the Combo Updater from Apple's site. Just head to their Support section and then click on Downloads. Then, search for "Combo Updater 10.3.9" and you should get the links to the Combo Updater. Be forewarned that it's quite a hefty download, but it's worth it since you can burn it to a CD and then upgrade from whatever version of 10.3 you have installed.

Hi Nixgeek-
The 10.3.9 update I am trying to install is the "Combo Updater 10.3.9" from the apple site! I am really puzzled as to why I get the 'cannot be installed on this volume' message. Thanks for your firmware update suggestion- that part worked!
Until I get 10.3.9 working, my Safari update can't be installed. Should I call apple next?
Best, Gina V
