Hey, I have Mac 10.4.11 my problem is that I can't open mkpg files on my mac anymore. I cannot find my reboot cd. I don't have time or money go buy one. I was deleting a version of itunes from the main drive and it erased a different version I had on the other drive. Now I can't open mkpg to install itunes again. A few days ago I was clearing some stuff from the main drive for space. I don't know if I erased something I wasn't supposed to. I was trying to make room for stuff because it has 15 gigs and the mac itself uses 10 gigs and im left with like 4 left. I have an 80 gig in the computer as well but the mac system wont use it as a start up disk. (That's not my problem at the moment) I emptied my trash bin thinking it was all good to be. I don't want to spend more money than I already did on buying stuff for it. I think it was something from Automator. I didnt delete it, I think I deleted some of its functions. I would appreciate all the help and advice I could get from you guys, thank you very much.

What files did you delete exactly? Well iTunes using QuickTime technology to play so did you delete some Quicktime plugins?

If you right click (control+click) on a mkpg file and do a "Get Info" on the file what program is the file associated with?

I can't remember what I deleted exactly. I don't think I delete anything from Quicktime. How do I know what a file is associated with? I looked on the Get Info option and I don't know.

To do a Get Info on any file hight light the file and do a Command button+i (or go to the menu item Finder "File"->"Get Info". Then when the get Get Info window opens click on the triangle 'Open With'. What are the mkpg files associated with?

Also what QuickTime plugins do you have (/Library/QuickTime/ and /Users/Library/QuickTime/)? I ask because the DiVX plugins routinly beak things when OS X is updated.

I don't have a problem with any of that, it says it's associated with Stuffit Expander but when I try to open it it says error.

Have you tried simply restarting your Mac, and trying to open that .mpkg again?
You could also download, and reinstall your current OS X combined updater for 10.4.11

One good solution: Find your restore DVD, or borrow one that will work with your Mac, or go out and purchase one. You may need it sometime (like now, eh?)
By booting to that disk, you have access to several items. You can run Disk Utility while booted to that DVD - so you can quickly test your hard drive for possible directory problems. You can also run the installer, using the option to Archive & Install. That will probably help you most after you have randomly chosen a few items to remove, and you don't remember what you removed...
