Can the volume click be silenced?

I have bought some new speakers that plug into the headphone socket. They are quite loud. But the "click" noise when you use F11 & F12 keys on the laptop to adjust the volume is now really loud and almost painful.

Is there a way to silence the clicks? I would like to be able to bring the sound up and take it down without anyone being aware of it.

System Preferences/Sound pane.
Turn off "Play feedback when volume is changed"
