Can't boot

Hi.
I use an iMac G5 which is a bit more than a year.
Two days ago I've downloaded the security update from Apple, and after restarting as requested, the computer just didn't boot.
It stayed on the screen which shows Apple's logo and a pinwheel below.
The pinwheel's running but there is no progress.
Iv'e tried running it in safe-mode but when I would press shift the computer just shut off.
Iv'e tried single-user as well but It got me to this DOS-like command prompt in which I couldn't type anything (maybe it has some thing to do with me having a wireless keyboard) and the fans started working like crazy.
Then I shut the computer down but when I tried turning it on again the fans were still very strong.
Thank you very much, I appreceate your work and this lovely forum.

have you tried booting from the original install DVD and running DiskUtility from the file menu? This would be your first step.

This sounds trivial, but also try unplugging the Mac from the power outlet and letting it sit for 5 minutes or so. Then plug it back in and try rebooting again.

I thought of using the system CD, but I already have one inside.
Do you know how can I eject it?
And about the unplugging thing - I've tried it like a million times, it just doesn't work...
Thanks!
