Cant browse local Nas web page

Good morning,

I have converted from PC to MAC with a nice shiny macbook,

obviously the learning curve is pretty steep at first but I am getting there!

my only real issue is I have a NAS with a web administration page hosted on my local network.

I can connect to smb shares on my PC's but when I fire up safari and try and browse to http://nas I get the server cannot be found.

any ideas ?

regards,

Daniel.

Try using the actual IP-number in the address, that might help. You could also enable "Bonjour" on the bookmark field, and see if your NAS turns up there.

ip works fine and if i put .local on the end of the name that works too.....

what am i missing, i am trying to avoid using a host entry as this defeats the object of DHCP

regards,

Dan

With most NAS there is a static IP assigned to it by the DHCP host.
What you have to do is find that IP address and type it into Safari and it should work.
Usually though, when trying to access the webpage of the NAS that is just for the admin panel and nothing more.

Probably because ".local" is not included in your list of search domains.

System Preferences > Network > (your network adaptor) > Advanced... > DNS

Thats the kiddie, thank you so much for the comments and assistance, adding local to the search domains settings resolved all issues.

you have been great help and I have learnt a lot in the process.

regards,

Dan
