Can't burn data onto 4.7GB DVD

Both the Finder and Toast 6 seem to believe the DVD is only 4.4GBs, but it is in fact a 4.7GB DVD-R. I've used this same brand on my machine before (probably didn't go over 4.4GBs). The folder I'm burning is just 4.59GBs. I'm no genius but the math should work.

Neither Finder nor Toast will burn, citing insufficient space on the drive. I have 8.6GB on my internal HD so it ain't that.

Anybody have an idea?

Your file or folder is too big.
4.7 GB (base10)=4,707,000,000 Bytes (more or less)=4.38 GB (base2)

so, your 4.59 GB is too large
Trim it down to less than 4.38 GB,
or burn to a dual-layer DVD-R,
OR, use a burning program that will allow you to burn a file to multiple disks.

Yep. I really, really wish nobody ever had started to mix things here. 4.38 GB is all you'll fit on a DVD-R unless it's a DL.

Plus the file system information also takes up some of that space making the actual storage size less than what they say.
