Can't Change Disk Name

Hey guys! Just got my iBook an it is awesome! Having some trouble though... can't rename my main partition. I partitioned right when I got it, no problem, but the main system drive is named " \ " for some reason. I tried to rename it "iBook HD" and it lets me, but when I reboot it reverts back to " \ ". I was going to reformat it, but when I boot off the CD it reads that drive as "iBook HD." I do have admin. privilages, but don't know what else to do?

Just did an clean install again, erased disk and set as UNIX file system, but it still shows up as "\" and I can't make it keep what I change it to! WTF am I doing wrong?

Where does it shoe up as "\" ?

On the desktop? In a Finder window? In the Terminal?

Are you sure you want UNIX File System?

Another reason to NOT use UFS, which names the volume " / ". You may re-name the volume if you like, but the change is lost on reboot. The proper volume name is still there, as you have found, but isn't displayed that way. The UFS volume works great with OS X, but will create difficulties if Classic mode is required, Classic operates best from an HFS+ volume. Bottom line - if Classic (or OS 9 booting) will ever be needed, don't format the volumes with UFS, use HFS+ instead. This is mentioned briefly in the OS X install read me file.

OK, reinstalled using HFS+, works perfect! Thanx very much for your help!
