Can't connect to internet via ethernet--confused

Hi,
Just got a new Zoom x4 router modem to use with my PowerBook G4, running Tiger OS X 10.4.11.

All the diagnositics are fine -- says I'm connected, gives an ISP address, passes authentication with the server, and pings OK. BUT when I try to connect, it won't.

In the Internet Connect dialogue box there used to be an option for Ethernet (along with Internal Modem, Airport, etc.). Until today when I installed the zoom x4. Is there any way to get that back as an option? It's the only thing i can think of to do at this point.

thanks in advance,

LinLin

I don't know how many people I have to tell this too.

When you replace a device connected directly to a high speed modem first TURN OFFF the modem. Then connect the router and turn the router on. THEN turn the router on (after leaving the modem power off for a couple on minutes) and configure the router to talk to the ISP.

Hi, Satcomer,
With this piece of hardware (zoom x4), it's all in the same box -- I understand it to be a modem and a router. So what should the order be. Should I turn off the x4, then reboot the computer, then wait a few minutes and then reconnect the x4?

I swear I don't understand these things but am glad other people have a better grasp.

Thanks,

LinLin

I've tried it and the order of powering up the computer and x4 modem/router makes no difference -- the thing still doesn't connect.

:-(
