can't get beyond start up!

I am trying to get into an emac running tiger. It goes through the grey screen start up ok, but then I get a blank blue screen and nothing!

I have tried to restart by pressing the options ket etc and unplugging, but nothing happens.

It is in a school, but I can't imagine anything that 15 yo's can do that my 11 yo kid hasn't tried on my mac and that is fine.

Only thing I can think is I installed tiger from the new emac we got last week. I just read that I'm not allowed to do this, is it possible that that has messed it up?

Assistance gratefully accepted cos the IT dept hates macs and they'll just tell me to buggar off and get a PC

Make sure you are updated to 10.4.3.
