Can't install iDVD4

Can anybody help me re-instate my iDVD 4 application?
After applying a Security Software update downloaded from Apple, my G4 failed to re-boot from the Hard Drive. After various attempts to resolve the problem, I erased my Hard Drive (security option - Zero Out Data) and then re-built starting with OS 10.4 from my original disc then updating to 10.4.11 by downloading the latest combined software update from the Apple site.
When I then installed iLife04 I got the message that iDVD4 cannot be installed because an Apple SuperDrive is not available and is required for burning DVDs.
There is a Superdrive available and I'm able to use it fully so I'm perplexed as to why I get this message. I've run 'repair disc permissions' and 'repair disc' on all hard drives without any change.

Additionally, I have applied the Patchburn including the extra files to support iDVD4, but no further progress. The System Profiler reads for the DVD drive -

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-116D:

Firmware Revision: 1.08
Interconnect: ATAPI

My machine is a G4 MDD 400MHz Firewire model -
Machine Name: Power Mac G4
Machine Model: PowerMac3,6
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 2 MB
Memory: 1.75 GB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.4.8f2

Can anyone advise how I can install this application?

I googled about looking for solutions and found a post on Apple discussions that looks like it might be you . :) No solution though :(

Didn't really find anything but perhaps you could try attaching another dvd writer externally or internally and seeing if that allows you to install. Any friends with an external DVD writer?

Yes, that was probably the post I made on Apple Discussion and as you've noticed - no reply yet. I've just checked again and no reply.
This is the second DVD writer I've tried. When it failed to install with my original Superdrive (Pioneer 111), I bought a new one (Pioneer 116) and have the same problem. I just can't think what I'm doing wrong or what else I can try.

The Pioneer DVR-116D should be supported out-of-the-box without any additional drivers/software.

Can you try removing the Patchburn software, and seeing if System Profiler still reports it as "Supported?" I have several of the Pioneer DVR-XXX series drives (DVR-104D, DVR-107D, DVR-112D) and all have been "natively" supported by Mac OS X.

Thanks for your suggestion - I've tried that - removed Patchburn 4 and associated files, restarted and the system profiler now reads -

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-116D:

Firmware Revision: 1.08
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)
Profile Path: None
Cache: 2000 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media:
Media Type: DVD-ROM
Blank: No
Erasable: No
Overwritable: No
Appendable: No

I did try installing iDVD on both my old drive and this new one prior to applying Patchburn in each case. I read from the Patchburn site that OS 10.4.11 should support these drives!
Have you any other thoughts on this one?
Many thanks Chris

Is everybody stumped on this one? Can anyone advise of any other resource that may be able to help me resolve this problem?
Many thanks,
Chris

The only other thing I can think of is that iDVD 4 is too old to be compatible with Mac OS X 10.4.

iDVD 4 was released when Mac OS X was still at version 10.2 (Jaguar). iDVD is now almost double that version number, and many changes have been made to the underlying UNIX structure of Mac OS X -- and big changes were introduced between 10.2 and 10.3. Even bigger changes were introduced between 10.3 and 10.4. That's why you see a lot of software that lists the minimum compatible OS as 10.3, and even more that lists the minimum compatible OS as 10.4.

Here's an Apple article that says that iDVD 6 is the minimum compatible version of iDVD for Leopard:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1518?viewlocale=en_US

I know you're running Tiger, but it stands to reason that perhaps that iDVD 4 is not compatible with Tiger. I can't find any documentation on that, but that's my gut instinct.

Thanks for your help. I know it is very strange why it won't recognise this drive and install iDVD normally. I've now been able to install iDVD4 by using the "Show original" command to give me the component packages of "Install" on the iLife installation dvd and double clicking on the iDVD.pkg icon.
Howvever, iDVD will not recognise the Superdrive as a burner.
Still not sure what to try next, as it all worked okay with this same OS and iLife 04 previously I can't see how it has gone out of date in just a couple of days.
Would welcome any pointers on how to get the burner working again.
Many thanks,
Chris
