Can't install Leopard on iBook G4 1.33 Ghz, 1G ram

I downloaded a dmg file of 10.5 install disc from work where I can get it for free (a university) and burned it to a DVD. Upon opening it on the G4, I get the finder screen with selection files for installing various software along with the Install 10.5 icon. Upon clicking on the icon, I get the normal screen indicating install 10.5 with the tab to restart the computer. The G4 restarts but just opens 10.4 again. I tried going to the Start Up Disk selection in System Preferences. The 10.5 install disk shows up there, but nothing happens when I try to restart with it selected.
Any ideas anyone?
 
insert that DVD, then restart holding the letter C.
Does that then startup to the installer?
You can tell because the first screen will be selecting a language for the installer.

If not, you likely have a bad burn of the Leopard installer. Not too unusual, as I have burned about 50 copies over the last few years, and about 1 out of 5 are no good. I don't know why, but the Leopard installer sometimes just doesn't burn correctly, I think. Try a different brand of dual-layer DVD.

I really gave up on Leopard DVDs about a year ago, and don't use them now. I have a Fire Wire hard drive with multiple partitions for a variety of different versions of installers, and OS X clean installs. That's something that is simple, if you have a Firewire drive that you could use. Just create an 8GB partition, and restore the Leopard image to that hard drive partition. It's a much faster boot and install for Leopard, and more reliable, too.
 
Holding down C on start just confused it for awhile until it just started once again on 10.4. I'll try downloading 10.5 again onto a flash drive and see if that makes any difference.

that will work but you hve to do it a certain way it has to be atleat 8GB you have to format it to Mac Jurnaled press the restor tab put the dmg as the source and the flash drive as destination once completed reboot after the chime old the option key and select the USB stick from the choices.
 
Whoa! Sounds like burning another DVD may be easier! I know, I'll call the university ITS and see if they'll take my iBook and load it for me; I know they baby people with PCs that way. Macs used to be prevail on this campus, but cheap eventually won the battle.
