Can't launch Microsoft Word or Excel

All of a sudden Word and Excel won't open any more. I just get a message that says "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Any help you could give me would be great! This is what the error reporting log says:

Version of MS Office you are using along with OS and some specs about the computer would be helpful. Sorry, my crystal ball is in the shop right now.

The only core duo that's close to that is a MacBook Pro, but that's a guess.
Office version 12.1.9, which is the current update for Office 2008

djackmac - do you see anything in that crash log that jumps out at you? I don't.

MS Office is, I think, the only app that I will recommend trying uninstall, then reinstall as one of the first few steps.

Nothing strange in the log. I would isolate if its a user issue or not by creating a dummy user or testing by logging into another existing user. If its the same with another user probably an uninstall/reinstall. But if you use entourage make sure nothing happens to the Microsoft user data folder under your user/documents folder. You could try downloading and installing Onyx http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html. Onyx has many cache cleaning features including the ability to clean application caches specifically for Microsoft.

The likely problem is the autorecovery is enabled which is launching a corrupted file. Hold the shift key down before launching the file, that will disable the autorecovery and the file should launch without crashing. To disable the autorecovery feature you will need to go to Excel preferences, click on the save icon and deselect the autorecovery feature. For it to "stick" you will need to save the file and shut Excel down normally. If it crashes again when you launch the file, the autorecovery did not "stick" and you will need to delete the com.microsoft.Excel.plist that is located in the library/preference folder in your user area. Any customization of menus will have to be recreated as Excel will create a new .plist from the default settings.

This should fix this problem, good luck!

Yesterday morning I was using MS Word and Excel and they were fine but then I closed my computer and opened it 15 minutes later and now they won't launch! I made additional space available on my drive (90GB now) and just now it opened so I saw the page and then it closed with an error message. The error report is below. Can you help???
