CD/DVD Tray open or closed

Is there a tool or a utility, that shows the state of the CD tray ?
Wether it's open or closed ?
I have my computer in a different room and never know, what's up there, so I walk and walk and walk... :(

Leave a disk in the drive. If the disk is mounted, the tray has to be closed. Eject, and the tray is open. Press eject again, and the disk will mount (because the tray is closed)
Am I missing something about the question?
 
try using "drutil" on terminal, there are many possible options to check the status of the drive. i can't verify on my drive, 'cause i have an imac g5 with slot and not tray.
 
I tried... This command will close the cd tray if open and do nothing if closed:

drutil tray close 1

If you have multiple burners, it might be a number other than 1...

drutil tray eject
