CD problems

I have two cd's which I have backed up jobs on. My computer (Mac OSX G5) will no longer recognize them. I have gone back before and pulled jobs from them. They are Memorex cd's. Do you think I have lost all of my information on those cd's? I have tried three other computers that run with the same software and they won't open. Any suggestions?

Have you tried viewing the discs on another Mac? Maybe they will be able to read the discs and you can pull the files from them.

To the first response, yes I have tried two other Mac's with the same system software. I even took them home and tried on mine which runs on 9.2. Neither of them worked. To the second response they are RW's.

You might have to try another brand of media then. Sounds like the drives on those Macs don't like CD-R/RW discs from Memorex. I've used Imation CD-R discs with success on my iMac G5 and my PCs running Windows and Linux. They were also pretty affordable for a set of 100 discs.

CD-RWs corrupt easily after three or more re-writes. Sure, you can re-format them and they sometimes become re-usable again, but their unreliability makes CD-Rs more attractive (or better still invest in an external HD).

Sorry, I know this doesn't get you out of your current fix.
