when I put a blank cd in imac no icon is shown on desktop or itunes. It spins for a while then goes quiet. I have checked the system preferences saying - open itunes when insert a black cd.

any clues?!

using imac 2.8GHz running 10.56

I have all my Macs ask me what to do when I insert a Blank CDR, DVDR with no problem. Try that to see what happens.

Check finder preferences and make sure CDs, DVDs, and ipods are checked to show on the desktop. If that's okay check system profiler under ATA and see if your optical drive is listed. If it is listed check further to see if it recognizes the media you inserted. If it still won't eject try restarting and hold down the mouse button to see if it will eject. If it happens to be a mini disk you inserted into a slot load optical drive, that may need to be taken apart and removed.

thanks

But I can't eject the disc or even see it at all on desktop = how do I get it out?

Reboot and hold down the left mouse button while booting up and it is a hardware code to first eject from player before full boot.
