anyone know how i can get rid of some of my screen saver options?
or add new ones?
i like keeping the screen saver at "random" but then i hate a few of the options it comes up with.
searched for the folder, to just delete some, but couldn't find anything like that.
i'm osx 10.4.3
g4 15"
thanks

ps: anyone know a cool place to download new ones, if i can add em in?

Screen savers are located in /Library/Screen Savers/ folder in the root of your hard disk, so, for example:
Macintosh HD/Library/Screen Savers/

They have the extension ".saver".

You might also find a few, if you have installed any yourself and installed them only for your user account, in the following location:
Macintosh HD/Users/[YOUR-USER-NAME-HERE]/Library/Screen Savers/
(These would be specific just to your user account, but will show up in the Screen Saver preference panel.

If you are looking to install more, you can always start at Apple's Web site:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/icons_screensavers/

awesome, dennis. thanks for the help.
alas, my screen savers are somehow not in either place (!)
those were the first places i looked, and nothing. i can even spotlight for the .saver setting and i don't get anything. is it possible that for 10.4.3 the screen savers are embedded in the system prefs somewhere?
i wanna delete some of those...

k. i just downloaded a new one, and it "installed" itself into the syst. prefs... huh. is there a way to DE install some of these?

You're right...
I just checked those folders and noticed something that I didn't take notice of before. The screen saver files in those two directories on my iBook are only the ones that I installed. Doing a Spotlight search did not turn up any others.

So my question is the same as yours now: Are the default screen savers embedded? Does anyone know. I can't even get Spotlight to turn up anything for the "flurry" screen saver. Are these hidden files? I know Spotlight will not turn up hidden files.

The original system screensavers are stored in /System/Library/ScreenSavers folder. Most experienced users do not recommend casually removing or modifying files in the /System/Library.

Most of the time it's not a good idea to mess with stuff in the System library, but in this case I doubt it would cause any harm. I just tried it myself, and it seems to work fine. I don't why screensavers would be in there, anyway. Maybe it would cause problems if you deleted all of your installed screensavers.

If you try to remove them, you'll notice that you can't drag them into a different folder. If you try, the Finder will copy them, not move them, since you don't have the proper priveleges. The solution it drag the file to the Trash (or select it and go to Move To Trash in the File menu). It will then ask you for your admin password before it moves the file. Once in the Trash, you can move it anywhere you want, including right back where it came from. This method works on Tiger and I think Panther. On Jaguar I think you'd need to do it in Terminal.

cool. that got rid of a few -- but the weird thing is: now that i've installed a new one, i hate it, wanna delete it, and can't find it in any of these places!
odd.
i really wanna get rid of it.
is there no application, like ONYX or something that does this?
the new Screensaver that i installed isn't anywhere...

How did you install the screen saver? Did you double-click it, or drop it into a folder? Have you tried using Spotlight to search for the name of the screen saver? Maybe it can turn it up for you and you delete it via the search results.

Is your screensaver listed in the Desktop & Screen Saver pref pane, with other screensavers, OR is it a separate preference pane?
