Changing mail box hierarchy - has to be a way

This has driven me nuts for years and I finally am seeking help. Say I have a mailbox at the top level and another mailbox within it (parent-child sort of arrangement). For example say I made a mailbox called "Colors" and within it are mailboxes labeled Blue and Yellow. I want to move one of these child mailboxes to the "parent level" but no matter what I try Mail will simply not let me do it. It always puts it in another parent level mailbox. Is there some trick, some key combination. I have searched the web and help. I cannot be the only one can I?

You know what, I got it, it just does not work as I expected it. When you drag it out of the parent, the line appears where the folder will go in alpha order. So even if you drag it out and up and the line showing where it will end up is placed somewhere else. It is a little weird and I guess it makes sense in a computer thinking sort of way, but not a human thinking sort of way. Sorry to take your time on this!
