Changing size of icons on the desktop

Is there anyway of reducing the size of the icons that appear on the desktop?

I find them too big at the moment, and would like to shrink them down to roughly the size of the OS9 ones.
 
Sure... first, make sure the "Finder" is the active application ("Finder" will appear in the upper-left part of the menubar in bold). Then, select "Show View Options" from the "View" menu item. There, you will find a slider-bar that will let you adjust the size of the icons on the desktop.
