Changing the TRASH ICON

where is the TRASH application?

I'd like to change the icon but I would have to find the actual application on my hard drive right?

It's a part of the Dock.app application. You can't change it as you would a normal Application icon (i.e. pasting an icon in the Get Info window).
Candybar, amongst others, can do it.

If you prefer to do it manually, the icons for the trash and finder are located in /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/ They are .png files, and can simply be replaced with whatever .png file you want. You then have to delete the dock icon cache (located in /Library/Caches/com.apple.dock.iconcache.[Username]) and restart the dock for the new icons to appear.

The trash is a glorified folder, not an application.
