clock gone strange!

I've just noticed that the clock on my imac is suddenly running about 20 seconds fast.

There was a huge electrical blip yesterday over half the county but I do have a spike protector and everything else seems ok, though there are some odd things happening when I'm browsing the net.

I've done permissions repair and verification. I'm not too bothered, but I'm concerned it maybe in indication of something underlying that is more serious (maybe someone has finally created that mac virus:rolleyes: )

Any ideas?

Hi Satcomer,

It's a PPC mac. I'm not actually in a total flap about it, but like I said before, I'm worried it maybe something else. Maybe Apple time is just that bit more ahead of everyone else these days!

O.K. Then lets try this. Follow the steps to reset yur PRAM. However, when doing this reset keep holding the buttons down until you hear 3 bongs! If this doesn't fix your problem then you might have to reset the SMU. Good Luck.

It seems to be right again now  One thing which is odd though, is when I restart I get a little os9 type folder with a ? in it but only for a split second and then it changes to the os9 finder smilie face before going into the ususl sequence.

I've had this imac for about 5 years now. I seriously hope it isn't on the blink!

I've only noticed iMacs do that after their firmware was updated. I guess it's reading the information in the firmware before it actually goes and boots up to the OS. I've only noticed this with older iMacs. But it's never affected anything as far as overall usage.
