My wife tried to connect to my computer and a message came up, " Unknown user, incorrect password or log on is disabled. Please retype name & password. She tried several times without no luck. I restarted the computer & went thru the same process getting the same result. I checked Preferences Sharing folder & Personal File Sharing & Printer Sharing are on. Everything else is off. Then checked Network and Location is set to Automatic & Built in Ethernet. In Accounts she is listed as Admin. & bobw as Standard. Not knowing what else to do I rebooted off the Install Disk and ran Repair Disk & Repair Disk Permissions. Then restarted the computer but got the same message. I know that we are entering the correct password. I have gone as far as I can go. I figure there must be something i'm missing.

What kind of computer is your wife using?
Which OS is it running?

The Keychain might be out of whack. Go to /Applications/Utilities/KeyChain Access and delete the saved password for logging into that machine. Also run Keychain First Aid. This might help.

I went to Keychaine access but found seven Appleshare passwords listed. Do I delete all of them? Where will I find Keychain first aid to run it?

Launch Keychain First Aid in Leopard (I think it has been there for the last versions of Jeychain) is in KeyChain Access drop down save menu.

I ran Keychain First Aid & it said Repairs complete but when I tried to connect to my computer the message said Unknown user or invalid password.

O.K then delete the saved passwords for the connection from KeyChain Access then try to set up the connection again.

I deleted the passwords and tried to log on again but got a window that said Login failed Unknown user, incorrect plassword or log on is disabled. I checked the keychain log in is unlocked.

Well then let's try an experiment. In the affected machine make a new Test User account the try to log in using that account. This way we can see if some plugin in your account might be affecting the connection.

Ok here is the problem. I'm a Newbe to OSX system and don't know the first thing about setting up a new account. Bobw set up the entire thing along with the network.
I need step by step instructions if you don't mind.
Tom

That's OK. To open a new account go to System Preferences (in the Dock)->Accounts, make the locked icon (in the bottom left corner is unlocked - if it is locked just click on and put in your password). Once the Accounts pane is open click on a + sign to add a new account (just go threw the steps that come up).

This is how to make a new account.

Two things, I have to leave to pick up my granddaughter at day care, but to use the new account will I have to log off of her computer & log on with the new account?
Tom

I created the new account but to try it out will I need to log out as my wife and if so her password is not working. I'll wait for your suggestion.
Tom

Also the Mac will tell you everything that is going on in it during operations. If you go to /Applications/Utilities/Console and launch the program. This is a log file looking around the logs program. Leave that on and see what comes up in the log when you try to go to the PC.

I launched the console program and then tried to connect to my computer but got the same message as before. I then looked at the system log again but it did not show anything about the connection failure.Do you want me to try the new account I created? Will I have to log off as my wife first? What will happen since her password is not working? Looks like a lot of question marks don't it. Thats me lost again.
