Connecting to any mac with new iPod.

I have just bought a new iPod 15gb and was wondering how you connect up to any mac with it.

I know it sounds a bit stupid but I can't see how unless you take the dock with you each time.

And that's a no-no!

The firewire port has a firewire thingy on one side, and a dock thingy on the other. You put the firewire thingy in the mac, and the other in the iPod. The iPod doesn't have a firewire thingy anymore, it's a different shape, the dock shape.
 
If you read my post carefully, you see that you don't need a dock to connect the iPod to a mac.
 
yeah, the port on the other end of the dock and the port on the bottom of the ipod are the same port. the dock is just for looks =)
