connection troubles

i am having a weird thing happen when i log in to my Earthlink account. after a while i get an error msg saying
Internet Connect

The connection was terminated because the other side is not responding. Please try again.


Earthlink has no idea of what to do and it is getting really annoying can anyone help me before my connection totaly dies ?
 
The problems you are having i researched it with a customer i was working with and it ended up being her modem needed to be reinstalled. Even though it seemed weird because it would give server could not be found then disconnect. I had her connect and just sit there and with in 15 seconds it just disconnected her. After playing with different modem drivers in the modems. list some would connect but were extreemly slow. so i sent her to apple to haver her modem reinstalled.
 
Might also be something as simple as a noisy phone line. Have you tried a different phone jack?
 
What kind of computer do you have? Some people have had success in curing connection problems by using the Apple Internal Modem (v.34) script instead of the Apple Internal Modem (v.90).
 
I had EXACTLY that problem with my OSX 10.1.3 - 10.1.5 system. I chased down ever single lead for months. It was the bane of my existance. I even almost had my modem replaced.

It turned out to be a combination of a) dodgy phone cord from my machine to the jack point, and b) suspected damage to the system files which control internet connect.

I suggest booting from your OSX install CD and running the Disc Utility to check out your system.

I occationally still have this issue in OSX 10.2, but this is due to a slightly noisy phone line.
