I'm sure I've seen a reference to this in the past, but I can't find it on "search".

Quicksilver G4 running 10.4.5

Just downloaded and installed the upgrade to Photoshop Elements 4. Checked the Install log and the Console opened as well. It was running a recurring message. I did a restart, went straight to Console and message is still running. Any ideas on how to stop this?

Details from log:

New line every 2 seconds!

Just looked at some logs and exactly the same message is everywhere!! Several logs of over a gigabyte! Seems that the Photoshop install is not relevant.

No Gamepad. But I do have a lot of USB devices. Including some leads that are not connected all the time and leads to cradles for a camera and a couple of Palm handhelds. These are via a 7 port Belkin powered hub.

And the "usual" connected bits: Scanner, Printer, Bluetooth dongle, Sound Sticks.

I would try process of elimination. Unplug all peripheral devices and plug them back in, one-by-one, until you get that error again. Then you'll know what's causing the problem.

Once you've found the offending device, try plugging it directly into your mac to see if you get the same error. I have an HP scanner that behaves very much like this when it's hooked up thru a USB hub.

Ah, yes, I do remember hp scanner software doing a constant "poll" type thing some time ago... I believe it had something to do with the software for the buttons on the scanner/printer/fax or something like that.

If disconnecting all the devices doesn't help, I would recommend next uninstalling any hp software for the scanner you've got and see if that helps.

Thanks guys!! All sorted :)

The tip on looking at USB was the key.

I unplugged all the connections and found that when I unplugged the Canon 1240U scanner, the Console reported an additional recurring call. This was the one that was resolved in my original post "Looking for devices matching Vendor ID=1193 and Product ID=8718".

When I looked in Activity Monitor I found that, in addition to the Canon Button manager 124U for my scanner, the driver for the Canon Button Manager 067U was also installed and running. When I killed this the Console stopped scrolling!! :) :)
