Convert clip on DVD to movie file?

Hey guys,

I've got a client's 30-second public service announcement on a DVD that I need to turn into a movie file (avi, mov, mpeg, or whatever) so it can be downloaded from their website.

My question is, what do I need to do to convert what's on the DVD to a file? Is it a fairly stupid-proof process, and could someone point me in the right direction?

well if you have an editing program that would be the easiest way to do so, but i'm guessing you don't, go to versiontracker.com and download the program Mac the Ripper. It is a DVD ripping tool so you should be able to use that to save the dvd contents as some kind of quicktime file.

You're right, I don't have an editing program. ;)

I downloaded and tried the MacTheRipper but it literally pulls the contents of the DVD directly off; I can't seem to find how to convert them to a movie file. So right now I just have a folder of BUP, IFO, and VOB files.

Perfect! HandBrake was the missing link: once I was in that program it was pretty clear what to do.

Thanks :)
