Converting .vob to .mp4

Okay, so I've been converting .vob files from various DVD's to .mp4 files to they are compatible with iTunes and iPod using Kigo Video Converter (KVC). After the application has finished encoding, it can play in KVC but not in iTunes OR Quicktime. When I try to open the files in Quicktime, I get an error that says "An invalid sample description was found in the movie."

So what is wrong with this new .mp4 file and why can't it play outside of KVC? I'd really like to put these files on my iPod and have been trying to work a way around this error for about a month now. Please help!!

I've never heard of that program before, so I'm not sure if it's one of those random programs someone felt like making. However, I know Handbrake works great and has many different presets just for your iPod and works flawlessly with everything, I use it to put everything on my iPod.

And, Handbrake is free. Looks like Kigo wants you to buy the Pro version for $40
It tantalizes you with something that's very close, then offers you 'pre-defined output for iPod (among other players). Maybe that means that it 'fixes' the file so it actually works (if you pay for the 'real' software)
Sorry if that sounds a little cynical...
Use handbrake - it works for free...

Thanks for your quick replies! I searched the web and I can only find the latest download of the software. Unfortunately, my operating system is a Mac OS X 10.4.11 and the only compatible version of Handbrake is 0.9.1. Is there a way to download only that version of it?
