Do I need a system CD for my Nikon Coolpix 800 camera if I have IPHOTO? I've looked for drivers on the interent and I can't find any (only updates) !!! I have downloaded NikonView, however.

Also, I need a usb cable for my camera. I can go out and buy one at radio shack, but does it have to be specific to coolpix cameras or can it be any usb cable with one end that fits into the camera?

If the camera isn't on this page:

...then it may not work with iPhoto. On the other hand, it may just work with it -- but if it doesn't, then you can't complain!

Also, the USB cable should have come with the camera. If you didn't get all the accessories with the camera when you purchased it, I would contact a) Nikon or the retail store you got it from, or b) the person you purchased it from and ask for the accessories that go with the camera.

USB cables for cameras usually have one end that's a regular USB connector, and the other end is usually specific to the camera itself. Here's one for the Coolpix 800:

And no, you don't need drivers for the camera if iPhoto recognizes it, and drivers won't help if iPhoto doesn't recognize it.

Well my camera doesn't work with IPHOTO (I just checked.) I bought the camera on ebay, which is why I don't have any of the acessories. I guess I just need to purchase the usb cable for the coolpix 800. And I can use the camera with Nikon View, right? No Driver Needed

Another option is to get a USB CompactFlash card reader and use iPhoto that way. I would highly recommend using iPhoto over NikonView.

I have this one, and iPhoto recognizes it perfectly:

Be sure to click on the "CompactFlash Type I/II" link.

Okay, sweet. It's the same price as a USB cable would be, and I can get this instead and use IPHOTO. Plus, the flash card is what will connect to the computer, not my camera, so I won't have to use up battery power. Thanks a lot.

Yeah, I find it much easier to pop out the CF card and slap it into the reader rather than fumble around with the camera and USB cable, plus, it saves the wear and tear that would occurr with the camera's USB connection (they tend to be delicate and fragile, not something that you'd want to be plugging and unplugging multiple times a day).
