Counting words

Is there some simple way to count the words in a selection of text?

All I know about is the utility 'wc' from Terminal. Is there anything "nicer"?

Are you talking about maybe a GUI method of doing the same, or are you talking about counting words from the command-line?

I found this AppleScript to count words in a TextEdit document... It may be modifiable (Mikuro, where you be?!) to perform the same action for a selection of highlighted text.

Attached is an Automator "service" that counts the words in the selected text of any application.

It unzips into one file named "Word Count.scpt" which I placed in ~/Library/Scripts/TextEdit/. I don't believe the name of the tail directory matters. After this, "Word Count" is available under the "Services" menu.
